After dizzy heights of 2008, comes back down to earth with a bump courtesy of the uncompetitive BMW Sauber F1.09. Although second-place in Brazil boosts his points, he starts looking for new drive for 2010 after BMW announce plans for F1 withdrawal and signs for Renault in October.
2008
Quickly establishes himself as a title contender, taking his (and BMW Sauber's) maiden win plus a further six podiums. A drop in the team's form late in the season sees him finish fourth overall with 75 points. Retained for 2009.
2007
Sixth overall in his first full Formula One season. Unable to match BMW team mate Nick Heidfeld for pure speed, but accumulates a healthy 39 points, despite missing the US Grand Prix after surviving an horrific crash in the Canadian race.
2006
Makes Formula One test debut with BMW Sauber. Becomes the sport's first Polish driver when he is promoted to a race seat for the final six rounds, replacing Jacques Villeneuve. Scores maiden podium in Italy and retains seat for 2007.
2005
Wins Renault World Series with four victories, three pole positions and 11 podiums. Second in Macau Formula Three Grand Prix.
2004
Seventh overall in Formula Three Euro series, with three podium finishes. Second in Macau Formula Three Grand Prix.
2003
First season in Formula Three Euro series. Takes one win, plus victory in Sardinia Formula Three Masters event.
2002
Second overall in Italian Formula Renault series, with four wins.
2001
Competes in Italian Formula Renault 2000 and Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup in first season of single-seater racing.
