Hit-and-miss qualifyings lead to similar race results. Takes third place in Malaysia and an excellent second in Singapore, but struggles to make top six elsewhere. Misses final two rounds after injuring back in Suzuka qualifying crash. Signs for new Virgin team for 2010.
2008
Impressive first season with Toyota, despite a couple of huge accidents. Scores six times and takes maiden F1 podium with second place in Hungary. Tenth overall with 25 points, just six shy of veteran team mate Jarno Trulli. Retained for 2009.
2007
Wins the GP2 series on his second attempt, taking five victories. Named as a BMW Sauber test driver, making nine appearances for the squad. Secures Toyota race seat for 2008.
2006
Finishes fourth in GP2 championship after scoring two wins.
2005
Spends season competing in Champ Car series for the Rocketsports racing team. Best finish a second place in Montreal.
2004
Scores two points on an unexpected Grand Prix debut with Jordan in Canada, after Giorgio Pantano withdraws. Returns to race seat for further three races after Pantano's contract is terminated.
2003
Fifth in International F3 Euro series, with three race wins and a further three podium results.
2002
Third in German Formula Three championship.
2001
BMW-ADAC Formula Champion.
2000
First in BMW-ADAC Formula Junior Cup.
